GOOLE
& DISTRICT COALITION OF PHYSICAL DISABILITIES
Goole
& District Coalition of Physical Disabilities is a charitable group of
committed and dedicated people who seek to give those with physical disabilities
the opportunity to meet their full potential. The many aspects of their

GOOLE
& DISTRICT TALKING NEWSPAPERS
Talking
Newspapers produce and distribute weekly 90 mins of news from Goole Times on
audio cassette. All registered blind or partially sighted individuals and
others who can provide medical evidence that they are prevented from reading by
medical condition, benefit from this service. Volunteers
required to read the news, operate copier, maintain register of users and

THE
GREEN TEAM The
Green Team is a voluntary organisation which began in August 1998 as a joint
initiative between Boothferry CVS and Goole Town Council and became a
registered charity in April 2000. We aim to provide a free and low cost
practical gardening service for elderly people and people with a disability in
Goole and surrounding area with training volunteers.

Home-Start
Goole & District is a voluntary organisation which is committed to promoting
the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age.
Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families
under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family crises and breakdown.
The service is independent, confidential and free. Families
need to:
How
do I become a Volunteer? Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and
age groups and are selected on the basis of their attitudes, parenting skills
and life experience. We are presently recruiting new volunteers - do give
us a call! How do I get a Volunteer? Any family with a child under 5 can ask us for help, or be referred to us by someone else. Just contact us and Gill Pirt the Organiser, will have a chat to you.
Hull
& East Yorkshire Mind is an independent registered charity affiliated to
National Mind, which aims to support people with mental health problems. We
opened an office in Goole in January 2000 to develop service to complement the
work of statutory and other voluntary service in Goole and Howdenshire. This
will include an information service, giving confidential help and advice on
mental health problems, running courses from time to time on handling stress,
confidence building and relaxation and helping to set up groups or establish
projects where there is a real need. We also aim to promote a greater
understanding of mental health to the general public. Our
main office is Hull with other bases in Beverley and Bridlington. We also have
an out-of-hours Crisis Service in Hull and a Community Arts Centre at the Old

MEMBER
OF PARLIAMENT - IAN CAWSEY Ian Cawsey was elected MP for Brigg and Goole in May 1997. In the last two years he has helped constituents with many different concerns ranging from difficulties with Passport Agency, queries with the Child Support Agency, taking up issues with local authorities and representing constituent's views on policy to the Government. Apart from his Goole constituency office within the Courtyard, Ian also has a constituency office in Brigg. He holds regular surgeries throughout the constituency and is prepared to see the elderly and disabled within their own homes. Constituents should feel free to contact the office at any time with their concerns. Rita Patterson is Mr Cawsey's Secretary based within The Courtyard and can be contacted during normal Courtyard opening hours on 01405 767744. When this office is closed calls will either be transferred to the Brigg office or to the answer machine.
READING
ASSISTANCE TEACHING SCHEME The
R.A.T.S. scheme is a voluntary organisation formed in 1996 to link local
volunteers with children aged 7 to 11 years old, who teachers have identified,
would benefit from one-to-one assistance to develop their reading skills. The
Scheme develops Partnerships between volunteers and schools and encourages good
reading skills through the enjoyment in their own abilities. R.A.T.S
scheme has the following basic rules:
The
friendly relationship established in regular sessions helps each child's
self-esteem and allows them to experience success. Books gradually cease

Relate
offer counselling in the Courtyard on Wednesdays from 1-8 p.m. To make an
appointment in Goole, Hull or Beverley, telephone the Hull Centre 01482 329621. Relate provide confidential counselling for couples or individuals who are having difficulties with their marriage or relationship. Our clients may be thinking of getting married or living together, ending their relationship or perhaps they are alone again after divorce, desertion or bereavement. Talking it over with a highly trained counsellor helps you to cope, gives support and the encouragement to make your own decisions. Appointments are for up to 1 hour and clients can come for as many sessions as they feel they need to.
The
Stroke Association provides support to people who have had strokes, their
families and carers. We campaign, educate, and inform to increase
knowledge of stroke at all levels of society. Our
Dysphasia Support Service has almost 3,000 specially trained volunteers and
staff who work to improve communication skills in people who have lost their
ability to speak, read or write after stroke. Our
Family Support Service is a visiting service which provides emotional support
for the carers of people who have had a stroke and their families. It aims
to prepare individuals for the changes they may have to make as a result of

WOMEN'S
ROYAL VOLUNTARY SERVICE The
Women's Royal Voluntary Service is a national charity of 60 plus years standing.
We provide many and varied services in support of the sick, elderly and anyone
in need. Locally we provide a meals on wheels delivery to the elderly and
disabled. The
hospital shop and trolley donate all the proceeds back to the Goole and District
Hospital for the benefit of both patients and staff and to help with funding for
equipment. An
emergency team is on hand to help in any crisis. Their aim is to assist
members of the public as and where required by the emergency service. For
